Dr. Aila Bandagi Kandlakunta
I am a feminist, urban, transportation geographer. I work at the intersection of gender, transportation, infrastructure, state, and political geographies in the urban majority world (or the global South), especially in South India. I successfully defended my doctoral dissertation in March,2026 at the department of Geography, University of Nevada, Reno.
I am an India Urban Fellow (2018) from the Indian Institute for Human Settlements, have a Masters Gender, Race, and Identity (2025), Masters in Development Studies (2017) and a Bachelors in Social Sciences (2025) from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Hyderabad.
My research is motivated by a personal need to make urban transportation responsive to the needs of women. I believe in embracing the messiness of research, and our cities and use creative methods to find answers to my questions. I enjoy doing comparative research work and am always looking for collaborations!
